Meh. Notice the rise of so-called amateur porn. Head over to Sensible Erection, and note how the readers criticise the obviously fake and the airbrushed, and how they swoon over signs of apparent authenticity, such as freckles. I think it's clear that wanking to a literal icon has limited appeal.
A lot of the same comments are made at Fark, and I'd have to say I agree. I also blame Playboy for that trend, and for Pamela Anderson.
Actually, Kerry recently said that if he knew that Iraq had no WMDs and links to Osama bin Laden he still would have voted yes. Bush threw Kerry a curveball through the press and Kerry fell for it. Clinton would have batted that one out of the park. Kerry is politically tone deaf and stupid. People don't want another Iraq war. Kerry told them he would give them one.
True on all counts, including Bubba. I would love to have a beer with that man.
As for Welch, I don't think there's a problem because people can't pin down his politics. That's actually why I like him. He seems to have no tolerance for BS, and the refreshing thing is it doesn't matter where the BS is coming from, he'll still call it. He was among the "war bloggers" during the war in Afghanistan, true, but you'd be hard pressed to find a reasonable person who wasn't in support of attacking the Taliban and al Qaeda in that country after Sept. 11. And a quick look around Welch's site reveals plenty of material that doesn't look favorably on Bush.
I'm not quite sure why I'm making these points, though. I have a feeling some monkeys could call the editors of The Nation war hawks if they put their minds to it. Speaking of, we haven't had any posts linking to archconservative Paul Krugman in a while. Anyone want to get on that?
If you're gonna argue about the 527s, please try to avoid the neocon talking points. Next thing, you'll be using the buzzword, "shadowy".
Dude, any time I say anything about politics in any thread I get accused of this Hannity and Colmes shit by you and that other cat whose name I can't recall right now.
Jesus. I am a regular, independent voter who couldn't give a shit about "talking points" or neocons or whatever else the those buzz words are, but to hear you tell it I'm Rush fucking Limbaugh. Just because you're obsessed with right-left circle jerks doesn't mean I am.
Cut it out. Please.
And to reiterate my earlier point -- this would never have happened if Kerry didn't mention Vietnam constantly. Just because you read a NYT article from Saturday's edition doesn't mean you have exclusive authority on what's dirty politics and what isn't.
Your man is absolutely ignoring any discussion of his decades in the Senate in favor of incessantly touting his four months of combat duty, so he had this coming.
And maybe the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth campaign isn't the exact equal of MoveOn.org, but it's damn close. I didn't see you screaming about dirty political attacks when Farenheit 9/11 came out, and as a matter of fact I seem to remember you being among the folks who were drooling in anticipation over it.
I could care less about Bush, but it's funny to see folks cheer Michael Moore and then get their GAP sweaters tied in a bunch when one negative word is lobbed at John Kerry. Grow up.
Newsflash: Politics are dirty.
The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth campaign is pretty much in the same category as anything MoveOn does.
And since we're on the subject, I think it's ridiculous that while we have so many valid concerns in this country, anyone who jumps into this debate fresh at this point would think we're having a national critiquing session on what kind of job John Kerry did 30 years ago during his four-month stint in Vietnam. The Republicans are guilty of shady accusations (as well as some true ones) but this would never be happening if John Kerry didn't mention Vietnam every 3.5 seconds.
The entire situation sucks.
Twice the First Time is an ill track, one of the first songs I heard from Saul Williams. I am definitely picking up the new album. Thanx for the notice.
Oh please. Green Day "sold out" with Dookie (which is, actually, one of my favorite albums) ten years ago. If they want to exploit the ringtone market (which, I hear, is huge), let them. "Artistic integrity" has nothing to do with it.
I agree. Sell-out, probably, but it was one of the most rockingest albums of the early 90s. I also liked 39 Smooth and that other one, the name of which escapes me right now...
At any rate, Americans can still travel anonymously...just drive a car.
Just don't use your EZ Pass.
Yes indeed, why would you possibly care about any of this, if you're not doing anything wrong? In fact, we should stop putting our letters in envelopes. Postcards only, from now on. After all, you've got nothing to hide, right?
Dude, there's a world of difference between writing on postcards and getting on a passenger plane without identifying yourself, and you know this.
I would be upset if the screeners didn't ask for ID from boarding passengers. This is just common sense.
I definitely agree with everyone who has qualms with the so-called "secret" law. But it sounds to me like abnoxious low-level government employee antics, not a reflection on the overall system. Go to your local police station and request copies of blotter entries, or ask for records at your town hall -- odds are you'll experience the same ignorant, make-the-rules-up on the fly idiocy.
Govern, ments which close down news organizations or go after reporters are repressive governments. Period.
That's so easy to say when it's not your family and friends who are over there right now, isn't it? If shutting down al Jazeera for a month helps simmer things down in terms of violence, I could care less what people like you think about so-called "repressive governments."
Notice that you said nothing about the previous government, which would put people through plastic shredders for lesser offenses.
And remember that the right to free speech ends when it could put other people in danger. In elementary school, they taught you that bit about yelling fire in a crowded theater, didn't they?
I spent more than a week on vacation without a computer, I come back to Monkeyfilter and already I'm disgusted. For fuck's sake, get a grip, people.
So, if we condense the context of the preceeding discussion back into the question, you get this: 'If you were president, and you were misinformed, and you sent our soldiers to fight based on this misinformation, and as a result over 900 of our soldiers died, what would you say to their parents?'
I understand what you're saying, but the implication is still the same -- they died for nothing.
Moore rightly notes there were no WMDs and he brushes aside the regime toppling part of it by saying that wasn't the original reason we went to war. Fine. But regardless of the justifications for the war, these soldiers accomplished something and they fought for their country.
That's why saying "What did they die for?" in that way is a disrespectful thing to do. He's not making any of the families feel better by cheapening the deaths, he's just pissing people off.
de Carabas, Colin Powell carries zero weight in the Bush administration.
Ummm....yeah. And that was kind of the point of the entire article, especially the bit about the Sudan. It basically says Powell's been marginalized on Iraq, but that has freed him to do his own thing with the Sudan and other countries without interference from Rummy and co., because they've been distracted.
I really recommend reading it.
Yeah, the local Yanks radio station (WCBS880 in NYC) links to MLB.com for live streaming audio of the games.
Ditto for WFAN, they don't carry any live Mets broadcasts on the net.
But if you want to hear the insanity of New Yorkers with ridiculously thick accents getting extremely worked up over our baseball teams, here are links to free clips of two of the better shows on the FAN (warning: depressed Mets fans by the dozens...):

If anyone still has that issue of GQ from about three months back with the much-heralded Colin Powell article, you can find info about the diplomatic efforts with the Sudan there.
The story notes that Powell has been quietly working to calm things down over there, something that's been overlooked in the press. Unfortunately GQ doesn't put their stuff online, but it's an interesting read if you can still find a print copy somewhere.
Sullivan: The NYT WMD note is a good example. But even then, it took a hell of a lot of prodding from outside folks (Jack Shafer at Slate, especially) to get the NYT to admit to the errors. (And by the way, that editor's note referred to Judith Miller's breathless reporting on WMD-hunting military specialists in Iraq, not purported yellowcake connections involving Niger, so I don't think your link applies to my comment).
SideDish: Can you let us know when you do that Raelian folo? I find those people hilarious, even if they are full of BS.
